Post-OSU Update: Shaun Gayle was selected in the tenth round (271st overall pick) of the 1984 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. Despite his modest draft selection, Gayle enjoyed a 12-year NFL career, 11 with the Bears. He made the Pro Bowl in 1991 and had four seasons with 100+ tackles. 1983 Media Guide: A regular in 1981 and 1982 … the hardest tackler in the Buckeye secondary … bench presses 325 pounds and lifts 650 from the squat … runs the 40 in 4.59 … a good team leader.

1982: Had 60 tackles, including two lost yardage stops … broke up 11 passes, tops on the team.

1982 Media Guide: Bench presses 320 pounds and squats 640 … played some at the rover position as a freshman … missed spring drills because of a stress fracture in his foot.

1981: Started 11 games at cornerback missing only the Liberty Bowl game with Navy due to an ankle sprain … made 63 tackles, intercepted three passes and batted down eight … named “Top Defensive Back” by the Buckeye coaches.

1981 Media Guide: A sure tackler with surprising strength … expected to start at one corner position … timed at 4.65 for the 40.

1980: Missed only the opener with Syracuse … played rover back behind Todd Bell and was a member of the specialty teams.

High School: Won all-Virginia and all-American honors at Bethel High as a linebacker … led his team in tackles for three years … named a Parade All-American as a senior … made 20 tackles against the top-rated team in Virginia … in three years his Bethel teams compiled a 20-6-3 mark … played halfback and fullback on offense … lettered in three sports.
