1990 Media Guide: Has waited patiently the past two years and now appears ready to step in and take over at quick tackle … had an excellent spring, and surprised some people by outdueling redshirt freshman Alan Kline for the starting spot … physical, agile player, who knows the OSU system and is a hard worker … came to Ohio State as a defensive lineman … has also played guard … has made significant improvement during the past year … determined to have a good year in 1990.
1989: Played in all 12 games as a backup to Joe Staysniak but totaled just 41 minutes.
1988: Began the year at guard but moved to tackle early in the season and played behind Tim Moxley … only appearance was in the Illinois game.
1988 Media Guide: Played tackle in the fall and spring, but will move to quick guard this fall as a backup to Jeff Davidson … showed promise as a tackle, but with Joe Staysniak and Mike Kuri both at quick tackle, the coaching staff decided Nichols would be more valuable at guard.
1987: Redshirted.
