1992: Media Guide: Exciting, big play defender with speed, size and a nose for the football … should be a leading candidate for the Thorpe Award this year as the nation’s top defensive back … Second team All-Big Ten in 1991 … played very well last year in his first season as a starter, finishing third on the team in tackles with 65 and second in solos with 49 … led the Buckeyes in interceptions with three and broke up four passes … other stats included seven tackles for loss, four fumbles caused and a blocked field goal … Sports Illustrated’s Defensive Player of the Week following the Washington State game (12 tackles, two for a loss and a sack, and a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown) … two key interceptions at Illinois … recorded a career-high eight solo tackles at Michigan … fierce hits caused two fumbles in the Hall of Fame Bowl … also blocked a field goal in that game … very effective in the blitz package because of his speed … also plays on the punt and kick coverage units.

1991: Media Guide: Locked up the starting strong safety spot with a very impressive spring showing … has the size, speed and instinct to be an outstanding football player and will be a candidate for postseason honors down the road … a punishing hitter, who can also cover one-on-one … had 26 tackles last year in a reserve role, seeing action in all 12 games … top game was five tackles against Minnesota … fumble recovery against Texas Tech … also a standout player on special teams.

1990: Media Guide: Came to Ohio State as a promising wide receiver, but was converted to free safety last spring … enters the season as the back-up to Mark Pelini and should provide excellent depth … ideal combination of size and speed for a free safety … the Buckeyes’ biggest defensive back … coaches like his potential … his twin, Rod, plays linebacker for the Buckeyes.

1989: Redshirted at flanker.

HIGH SCHOOL: First team all-Ohio … won the Columbus Touchdown Club’s award for Ohio Player of the Year … played wingback as a senior and averaged 16.5 yards per catch … accounted for 1,600 yards in total offense as a senior … captained his football and basketball teams … also all-state in basketball.

Personal: Enjoys listening to jazz … wants to pursue a career in counseling after graduation.
