1992 Media Guide: 1992 will be Paul Long’s second season as a starter … went into last year with virtually no playing experience, but started all 12 games and was a mainstay in the middle … an honorable mention all-Big Ten selection last season, and should be even better this year now that he has some seasoning … 317 minutes last year tied him for second on the team behind Alan Kline’s 319 … not flashy, but very steady in everything he does … a tough, durable football player … the lone OSU center with any experience, so Long would be extremely difficult to replace in the event of an injury … was to have enrolled in the fall of 1987, but after injuring his shoulder in preseason drills did not enroll until Winter Quarter 1988 … played defense during his first two years with the Buckeyes.
1991 Media Guide: Appears to be the leading candidate to replace Dan Beatty at center even though the sum total of his playing time is seven minutes in four games, all last year … won the starting job, despite his inexperience, with an impressive spring showing in which he showed daily improvement … has good strength and size and is an extremely hard worker … came to Ohio State as a defensive lineman and played there his first two years … moved to center for the first time in the spring of 1990, so he is still learning the position.
1990 Media Guide: Moved from the defensive line to center in the spring … Still learning the position, but should add quality depth … hard worker who wants to succeed … has greatly increased his strength since his freshman year … Originally set to enroll in 1987, but after injuring a shoulder in preseason drills did not enroll until winter quarter of 1988.
1989: Saw brief action in six games as a reserve defensive tackle … recorded two tackles.
1989 Media Guide: A good young player, who was redshirted last year … showed tremendous improvement in the spring drills in all phases of the game … coaches like his attitude … has worked hard in the weight room and has greatly increased his strength from a year ago … needs refinement and experience … originally planned to enroll at OSU in 1987, but injured a shoulder in preseason drills and did not enroll until Winter Quarter of 1988.
1988: Took part in spring drills and was redshirted in the fall.
HIGH SCHOOL: Northeastern Ohio Lineman of the Year as a senior … Selected on the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s ‘Dream Team” … played in the North-South All-Star Game … also lettered in wrestling and track, taking fifth in the heavyweight division and fifth in the shot put as a senior.
PERSONAL: Career ambition is to write for a magazine, specifically an entertainment publication … hobbies include listening to Beatles music, collecting their records and reading fiction.
