Post-OSU Update: Najee Murray transferred from Ohio State to Kent State in August of 2013 after what Urban Meyer called a “training camp issue.” Murray played three years for the Golden Flashes, joining former Ohio State assistant coach Paul Haynes. He made 103 tackles, 21 passes defensed, and two interceptions in his KSU career. After not catching on in the NFL, Murray has had a successful career in the CFL. (updated: Nov. 2023)

2013 Media Guide: Najee Murray was contributing in games for the undefeated Buckeyes last year as a true freshman, until a knee injury and subsequent surgery ended his season … before his injury, Murray had played in the first six games for the Buckeyes and had made three solo tackles on special teams … his playing time totaled 74 plays in those six games including six plays as a cornerback in the season opener against Miami.

High School: Najee Murray was the leader of the secondary for three fine Steubenville Big Red teams, including the 12-2 2009 state semifinalist squad and the 11-1 team in 2011 that advanced to the regional semifinals … Murray had 54 tackles as a senior and was named first-team Division III all-state by the Associated Press and was the state’s AP co-defensive player of the year … Murray led the Big Red with 17 receptions in 2011 for 280 yards and four touchdowns, and he averaged 16.8 yards per rush off 11 carries … named a four-star recruit by Rivals.com in its final rankings, Murray was the No. 16 safety prospect in the nation by Rivals.com and held the No. 20 ranking from Scout.com … had 62 tackles and two interceptions as a junior and 57 stops as a sophomore … helped the 2011 Steubenville 4×200-meter relay team win a state title at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in a state record time of 1:27.02 … played in the OHS-FCA North-South Classic football game.
