Post-OSU Update: After winning back-to-back Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and Quarterback of the Year awards, Justin Fields left Ohio State after the 2020 season with two years of eligibility remaining. He entered the 2021 NFL Draft, where he was selected 11th overall by the Chicago Bears. The Bears traded up with the Giants for the opportunity to select Fields.
While not initially named a starter to begin his rookie season in 2021, Fields was thrust into the starting lineup in Week 3 due to an injury in Week 2 to starter Andy Dalton. Fields would go on to start ten games his rookie year (12 games total), completing 58.9% of his passes for 1,870 yards (seven passing TDs and ten interceptions). He began to illustrate elite rushing skills at the pro level, recording 420 yards (5.8 ypc) and two touchdowns. Fields upped his rushing total in his second season to 1,143 yards (eight touchdowns), but failed to make a major step forward in his passing game – 60.4% completion rate, 2,242 yards (17 TDs and 11 INTs). Fields started one more year with the Bears, failing to guide them to a winning season. His starting record for the Bears was 8-28. After securing the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Chicago traded Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a conditional sixth-round pick.
In 2024, Fields mostly backed up starter Russell Wilson, but he did start six games (4-2 record). He had his best statistical season, completing 65.8% of his passes for 1,106 yards (five TDs and one INT). (updated: Jan. 2025)
