Pronunciation: Cook

Major: Recreation Education (1990), Undeclared (1987-88), Physical Therapy (1987)

1990 Media Guide: Will battle Mark Williams for a starting spot … played defense for the first time last year and did a more than adequate job of backing up Tom Lease … played in all 12 games and wound up the year with 33 tackles … intelligent athlete, who learns quickly, makes few mistakes, and gets better with each game … rarely out of position and a good open-field tackler… doubles as the “zoom back” in short-yardage situations on offense … came to Ohio State as a tight end and was moved to flanker as a sophomore.

1989: Had 33 tackles, including 19 solos … top effort was seven tackles against Wisconsin.

1989 Media Guide: A good, intelligent athlete who appears to have finally found a home … a backup tight end as a freshman and used only occasionally at flanker last year, he moved to outside linebacker last spring and is very much in the starting picture this fall … had a team-high 13 tackles in the spring game … has made an amazingly quick and smooth transition to his new position … surprisingly good at drops and pass defense considering his lack of experience.

1988: Played a total of 44 minutes in 11 games as a reserve flanker … usually used as an extra blocker in short-yardage situations … caught one pass, for seven yards, against Syracuse.

1988 Media Guide: One of the first freshmen to play last year … sure-handed and has the ability to get open … the Buckeyes’ most physical wide receiver … very intelligent player.

1987: Played in 10 games and caught four passes as a tight end … had TD receptions against Oregon and LSU … moved to flanker in the spring because of his lack of size at tight end.

HIGH SCHOOL: All-Ohio and the Cincinnati Player-of-the-Year as a senior … captained the football and basketball teams that won state titles … caught 69 passes for 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns his senior year … had a career total of 129 receptions for 2,083 yards and 18 touchdowns … a three-year starter playing end on defense as well as tight end offensively …  his high school team went 14-0 in 1986 … won 11 high school letters … captained the football and basketball teams that won state titles.

PERSONAL: Hobbies are sports, music and drawing … favorite movie is Animal House.
