Major: Exercise Science (2001-04)
Weight: 265 (2000-04)
2004 Media Guide: Jason Caldwell is a fifth-year senior who hopes to step it up this year and solidify a spot in the two-deep in order to secure additional playing time … one of just two tight ends on the team with any game experience … has played in 11 games the past two years, including nine in 2002 when the Buckeyes posted a 14-0 record and captured the national championship … has been utilized mostly as a blocker and is still looking for his first career reception … has excellent size and speed … playing a position where the Buckeyes need to develop depth and will be given every opportunity in the fall to nail down the No. 2 spot behind Ryan Hamby.
2003: Appeared in just two games – Washington and Northwestern.
2003 Media Guide: Jason Caldwell is a potentially outstanding tight end with size, speed and the ability to catch the ball … has seen limited action to date with the Buckeyes, but to a man the OSU coaching staff believes he has the ability to be something special once he gains the necessary experience … is still looking for his first career reception … also a fine blocker.
2002: Played sparingly in six games … did not have any receptions … also played some “H” back.
2002 Media Guide: Jason Caldwell had shoulder surgery following the 2001 spring practice and subsequently sat out the entire 2001 campaign … did practice this past spring, however, and appears ready to compete for playing time in the fall … is a highly-regarded young player with size and speed … also a fine blocker … coaches are anxious to see him under game conditions.
2001: Underwent reconstructive shoulder surgery following spring practice and sat out the fall season … played tackle in the spring game (there were not enough tackles to go around after the teams were divided up) and gave a good accounting of himself.
2001 Media Guide: Jason Caldwell had shoulder surgery following spring practice and will probably sit out the 2001 season … is a highly regarded young prospect who was redshirted last year … coming off a solid spring in which he impressed the coaching staff with his all-around ability … fine blocker and good receiver with the speed to get down field … played tackle in the spring game to help offset a lack of numbers on the offensive line and held his own … started the game late and is still learning … has tremendous upside.
2000: Made a favorable impression early, but was redshirted.
High School: Played only two years of high school football and earned the starting nod as a senior … tremendous potential with his size and speed combination … finished his senior year with 20 receptions for 210 yards and five touchdowns … rated as the No. 25 prospect in the state by The Ohio Football Recruiting News … competed in basketball and track and field … was the state runner-up in the discus and placed seventh in the shot put.
Personal: Is the son of Dwayne and Michelle Caldwell … his father played college basketball at Northern Illinois … likes to watch movies (Gladiator is his favorite) … born May 5, 1982.
