1988 Media Guide: Gary Clift is coming off his best year … came to Ohio State as a quarterback in 1984, but did not play that year … a persistent shoulder injury necessitated a move to the defensive secondary in 1985 … moved again in the spring of 1986, this time to wide receiver … missed almost all of last spring due to a pulled hamstring.

1987: Played in seven games and started against Minnesota …  had five catches for 87 yards, a fancy 17.4 yards per catch average … had two receptions at Purdue, one a diving 40 yarder that set up an early OSU touchdown.

1986: Saw brief action in three games.

1986 Media Guide: Buckeye coaches are anxious to find a place to use this versatile athlete … moved to split end in 1986 spring practice.

1985 Media Guide: Entered Ohio State in the fall of 1984 but saw no game action … a persistent shoulder injury, diagnosed as a torn tendon, required surgery and kept him out of spring practice … begins fall behind other quarterback hopefuls but will narrow the gap quickly because of his talent.

High School: Threw for more than 1,000 yards in each of his last two years … ran for 12 touchdowns as a senior … holds nearly all the Brunswick High passing marks … won nine letters at Brunswick High, three each in football, basketball and baseball … an honor student.

Personal: Enjoys traveling and swimming … member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
