2013 Media Guide: Drew is a kicker with an attitude; a good, positive attitude, but he is serious, no one gets in his face, he works hard in the weight room and at his craft, and he does what the coaches ask him to do … those are a few of the reasons he will be the Buckeyes’ kicker for a fourth consecutive year and the team’s field goal kicker for a third consecutive season … Drew has kicked off in 38 consecutive games – every game he has played – and depending on how he and the Buckeyes do this season, he could tie an impressive quartet of players (OG Bryant Browning, CB Chimdi Chekwa, LB Marcus Freeman and DE Cam Heyward) for second-place all-time at Ohio State with 52 games played, trailing only Ross Homan’s 54 games between 2006-10 … Drew has connected on 24 of 32 field goal attempts for his career and his percentage of 75.0 ranks fifth all-time at Ohio State … he has made 92 of 94 extra point attempts for a .978 percentage, good for sixth all-time at Ohio State … he has kicked off 228 times and in 38 consecutive games with 41 touchbacks and only six that have gone out-of-bounds … he makes tackles, too: he has 15 career tackles including 13 solo stops … in 2012 Drew only attempted 11 field goals (making eight) as Ohio State was a touchdown-scoring machine, scoring the fourth-most
touchdowns in school history: 60 … Drew was big when he needed to be, though … despite just six attempts through the team’s first 11 games, Drew connected on four-of-five vs. Michigan (plus two
extra points) for a career-best 14 points in the Buckeyes’ 26-21 win … included was a career-long 52-yarder and a 41-yarder.
2012 Media Guide: Drew will handle all kicks in 2012 for the second consecutive year.
2011: Led all Big Ten kickers in field goal percentage (84.2 pct.) by hitting on 16 of 19 attempts … his season percentage ranks fifth all-time at Ohio State … his 1.23 field goals per game ranked third in the conference and 36th nationally … his 16 field goals rank ninth at Ohio State for a single season … he
missed his only two attempts in 2010 and his first two attempts in 2011 before connecting on 16 of
his next 17 attempts, including 12 consecutive at one point – the third-longest streak in school history – to close out the season … made six field goals from 40 yards and beyond, the second-most in school history (Mike Nugent; 11 in 2002) … also made 36 of 37 extra points, with his only miss a blocked kick in the Purdue game … Drew ranked sixth in the Big Ten in kick scoring (6.2 ppg) and 10th overall in scoring in 2011 … his 14 kickoff touchbacks helped Ohio State rank third in the conference in kickoff coverage … he has a personal best of three fi elds (in three attempts vs. Colorado) and a long of 47 (also vs. Colorado).
2011 Media Guide: Versatile specialist who will bolster the kicking game … handled the Buckeye
kickoffs in 2010, but could contribute with place-kicks and punting this season.
2010: Handled some long field goals and most kickoffs as a true freshman … had 52-yard field-goal attempt blocked against Marshall … 13 kickoffs against Eastern Michigan, with three touchbacks … special teams player of week: Eastern Michigan, Penn State … first-year letterman.
High School: Versatile specialist … career long field goal of 50 yards; 104-110 PAT, 173 career points
scored … second team all-Ohio for Coach Bill Davidson … SEOAL special teams player of year … team captain … four-year starter … also a bowling letterman … Adidas all-region in soccer … Ross County YMCA Teen Character award … National Honor Society, Spanish honorary, student council, SADD, peer mediation.
Personal: Son of Elaine and Brad Basil.
