2016 Media Guide: After earning a medical red-shirt year in 2015 when he broke his leg in Week 5, Corey Smith is in his fourth year with the Ohio State football program and is a sixth-year student … he worked on rehabilitating his injury ever since it occurred and is expecting a full return to the field this fall camp … meanwhile, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Spring 2016 in African American and African studies … enters the 2016 campaign with 104 career catches for 1,488 yards and 11 touchdowns, including 25 catches for 317 yards in Ohio State’s scarlet and gray … also is a valuable asset on special teams, particularly kickoff coverage.

2015: Smith played in four of the team’s first five games before suffering his leg injury against Indiana … had caught five passes for 62 yards up until that point … earned a medical red-shirt season after missing the final eight games.

JUCO and High School: Smith, from Akron Buchtel High School, played on an unbeaten (10-0) Grand Rapids (Mich.) C.C. team in 2011 before the college discontinued the program after 80 years … Smith had 28 receptions for 438 yards and two touchdowns for Grand Rapids … he then played for Buddy Stephens at East Mississippi C.C., located in Scooba, Miss., in 2012 … he recorded 51 receptions for 733 yards and nine touchdowns for the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges’ north division champion … caught 11 passes for 113 yards vs. Northwest C.C. and seven passes for 158 yards vs. Southwest C.C. … his team won first eight games before dropping final two games of the season … named the No. 9 junior college prospect in the nation by 247Sports and the No. 3 receiver.
