Post-OSU Update: Chris Vance was not selected in the 2003 NFL Draft and did not play in the NFL. (updated: Sep. 2022)

Major: Sociology (2001-02)

Weight: 180 (2001-02)

2002 Media Guide: Chris Vance will start at flanker and should be a candidate for All-Big Ten honors … has sure, soft hands and tremendous concentration … can make the spectacular look routine … repeatedly amazed onlookers last year with his one-handed snatches … was in his first year at Ohio State last year after transferring from Fort Scott Community College … took him a while to adjust to this level and learn a new offense, but once he did, he was a joy to watch … made his first start against Wisconsin and was a regular from that point on … also will be in the punt return rotation.

2001 Season: Selected by the coaching staff as the Buckeyes’ Most Outstanding First-Year Offensive Player … OSU’s second-leading receiver with 34 catches for 605 yards (17.8 yards per catch average) and a team leading four touchdowns … put together back-to-back 100-yard games against Minnesota (101) and Purdue (139) … had 12 catches in those two games, including a
season-high seven against the Boilermakers … made two spectacular one-handed catches against Purdue, one a 7-yard TD grab that ranks as one of the greatest in Ohio Stadium history … his
effort against Minnesota came three days after he had learned that his father had passed away … first catch of the year was a 61-yard TD against Akron in the season opener … had at least one catch in every game but Northwestern … also returned punts for the Buckeyes and averaged 6.9 yards per return on 23 attempts.

2001 Media Guide: Chris Vance transferred to Ohio State at the start of last Winter Quarter … took part in the winter conditioning program and spring practice … projected himself into the picture for playing time with an impressive spring showing … has good size, excellent hands and speed, and the added benefit of playing two years at the junior college level … the latter makes him Ohio State’s most experienced wide receiver … will probably be the Buckeyes’ punt returner … can also play split end.

High School and JUCO: Won all-state honors in high school … led Fort Scott in receiving in 2000 with 37 receptions for 598 yards and 10 touchdowns … also returned punts … 43 receptions for 688 yards and five touchdowns in 1999.

Personal: Is the son of Aldean Vance … a longtime Buckeye fan who always told his friends, “If I don’t go to school in state, I am going to Ohio State.” … Jerry Rice and Lynn Swann are his favorite receivers … enjoys playing basketball and swimming … born Sept. 13, 1980.
