1999 Media Guide: Suddenly, Austin Moherman is the veteran quarterback on Ohio State’s roster. Never mind he has only quarterbacked briefly in four games and thrown just one pass, this third-year sophomore has been through two fall camps, two seasons, two bowl preparations and two spring drills. And it is these experiences, coupled with a strong arm, that makes the 6-5 quarterback a real player in the key position battle of the 1999 Ohio State season. “Austin has a chance to put two years of playbook knowledge to use this fall,” quarterback’s coach Tim Salem said. “He knows what to do and what not to do and he has some arm strength. He can be a player.”
1998: Saw his first collegiate action, getting time in four games. He attempted a single pass, against Toledo.
1998 Media Guide: Talented, young quarterback prospect … tallest of all the quarterbacks in camp at 6-5 … quarterbacks coach Tim Salem says “both Austin and David Priestley – another redshirted freshman quarterback – made progress in their first year … Austin worked hard in the weight room, listened to what we were teaching and improved daily …he has a live arm.”
1997: Redshirted the season as a true freshman.
1997 Media Guide: One of the top quarterbacks in the pass happy and talent rich west, along with fellow Californian and incoming freshman David Priestley … completed 61 percent of his passes (137-224) for 2,001 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior … for his career, he passed for 5,836 yards and 32 touchdowns … had a career completion percentage of 55 percent (420-757) … also holds the league record for the longest touchdown pass (99 yards) … starter for three years, including three games as a freshman … helped lead team to 8-4 and 9-3 marks as a senior and a junior, respectively, including a league championship as a junior … three-time all-league selection … was also a four-time all-league choice in basketball, as well as earning all-South Orange County honors three times … was a three-time team MVP and captain as a senior … Greatest sports thrill is winning the league championship as a junior … came to Ohio State because it is a great school with a great football tradition in one of the best college towns … enjoys video games … parents are Darrell and Terri Moherman … born 12-2-77.
