Recap
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Greg Frey threw for a career-high 285 yards to lead the Buckeyes over the Cowboys in the first ever meeting between the two OSUs.
Frey and flanker Bobby Olive turned the game around late in the first half with a 57-yard pass that set up Carlos Snow’s two-yard scoring run with 13 seconds remaining.
The Ohio State defense limited the Cowboys to just 90 yards in the second half. Oklahoma State threatened twice in the third quarter (once after an interception and again after a kick return), but came up empty both times.
Brent Johnson and Vinnie Clark had interceptions for the Buckeyes, while Pat Thomas, Steve Tovar and Srecko Zizakovic each had nine tackles.
NOTES: Oklahoma State was quarterbacked by Mike Gundy, the future long-time coach of the Cowboys. Ohio State missed matching up with Barry Sanders by one year – he left Ok. St. after the 1988 season with a year of eligibility remaining.
