MADISON, Wisc. — It became quickly evident there would be no Wisconsin upset of Ohio State this year, as the Buckeyes scored a touchdown in the first 19 seconds and a total of 17 points in the first period. Although the Badgers narrowed the Ohio State margin to 17-10, the Buckeyes struck back with 10 points to lead 27-10 at halftime: The final margin was 30-17 in favor of Ohio State.
Vince Workman had his career best running for 172 yards in 29 carries, while Jim Karsatos and Tom Tupa threw for 180 yards. Cris Carter had still another great day with seven catches for 112 yards and one touchdown.
Chris Spielman and Eric Kumerow were defensive stars. Spielman led with 11 tackles and had a 56-yard interception return, longest of his collegiate career.
The win, Ohio State’s ninth straight, left Ohio State 7-0 in Big Ten play and set the stage for the regular season finale with Michigan, who was upset by Minnesota at Ann Arbor.
