Recap

Pittsburgh, PA — Bobby Hoying equaled his own school record with five touchdown passes and Terry Glenn set one school record and tied another as the Buckeyes ran their record to 3-0. Ohio State rolled up 636 yards in total offense, its highest total since 1986. Most of that yardage came through the air as three OSU signal callers combined to complete 23 of 33 passes for 421 yards and seven TDs, the latter still another school record. Glenn was unquestionably the star of the receiving corps, grabbing nine passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns. The yardage total eclipsed the school single-game record of 220 set by Gary Williams in 1981 and the TD figure tied Bob Grimes’ 1952 record. The game was close at halftime, with OSU sluggish the first 30 minutes, but after Hoying threw three TD strikes in as many possessions to start the third quarter, it was no contest. OSU tailback Eddie George exited early in the third period, but still managed to pick up 122 yards rushing. Glenn finished with 315 all-purpose yards. The OSU defense forced five turnovers, including four interceptions, and held the Panthers to 264 yards. Middle linebacker Greg Bellisari had nine tackles to pace OSU. The potent Ohio State offense converted 10 of 13 third down situations.
