Recap
Columbia, MO — Joe Germaine came off the bench to throw two touchdown passes to David Boston, sparking a struggling offensive attack and helping seventh-ranked Ohio State to a 31-10 victory over Missouri. Germaine hooked up with Boston on scoring passes of five and 28 yards in the second and third quarter, rallying OSU from a 10-7 deficit to a 21-10 lead. Pepe Pearson had a three-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and Michael Wiley bowled in from one yard late in the third quarter for Ohio State, which had another scoring drive thwarted by a fumble. Pearson rushed for a game-high 101 yards off 18 carries, his 11th 100-yard rushing day as a Buckeye. Corby Jones had an eight-yard TD scramble for Missouri (2-2), which was denied in its bid for its first 3-1 start in 17 years. Ohio State, which played at Missouri for the first time in school history, leads the all-time series 9-1-1. The schools were meeting for the first time since 1976. The win improved Ohio State’s record to 4-0.
NOTES: Linebacker Andy Katzenmoyer’s bone-jarring hit of Mizzou quarterback Corby Jones midway through the second quarter propelled the Buckeyes to their fourth win in as many starts. With the upset-minded Tigers ahead 10-7, Katzenmoyer stopped Jones dead in his tracks a yard short of the first-down marker on third-and-10. The game’s momentum shifted from that point.
The Buckeyes turned in a number of big plays. David Boston had catches of 45 and 28 yards. Dee Miller hauled in 43 and 31-yard grabs. Ken-Yon Rambo had a 42-yard kick return. Additionally, Stanley Jackson and Steve Wisniewski hooked up on a 28-yard pass play and safety Gary Berry had a 26-yard interception return.
Freshman wide receiver Reggie Germany, from Hazelwood, Mo., hauled in his first career reception in front of friends and family, a 17-yarder that deflected off a teammate’s hands.
On the defensive side, Rolland Steele and Percy King each secured their first career interceptions.
