Recap
Minneapolis, MN — Bobby Hoying threw career touchdown passes 50 and 51, breaking Art Schlichter’s career record and Eddie George rambled for 178 yards and three scores as the Buckeyes ran their record to 9-0 for the first time since 1979. George also had a career-high eight receptions for 86 yards, coming within an eyelash of etching his name into the records book as the first Ohio State back ever to have 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving in the same game. Hoying and flanker Terry Glenn teamed up three times in the first quarter for 103 yards, including a 45-yarder on which Glenn’s spectacular catch left the OSU wide receiver with a separated right shoulder, but did give him a school-record 1,141 receiving yards on the year. The OSU defense, facing the Gophers unique run-and-shoot attack for the first time, gave up 191 yards in the first quarter, but allowed just 179 in the last three quarters combined. The Buckeyes put on a memorable goal-line stand in the first quarter, stopping the Gophers six times from inside the two yard line. Defensive end Mike Vrabel finished with a pair of sacks and his first career interception.
