Ann Arbor, MI — The Ohio State Buckeyes traveled north to face their bitter rivals, the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines. And although a conference championship was not on the line, much was at stake as OSU needed to win to finish the season above .500 and earn a possible berth to a postseason bowl game. For the Wolverines, a win could lock up a berth in a Bowl Championship Series game.

On OSU’s second possession, the team put together an impressive seven-play, 51-yard drive that resulted in a six-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Steve Bellisari to tight end Kevin Houser.

In the second quarter, the Wolverines tied the score at seven with an 11-play, 70-yard drive that resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run by tailback Anthony Thomas.

The Buckeyes immediately went back to work. Another short touchdown pass by Bellisari, this time to fullback Jamar Martin, capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive. OSU went into halftime with a 14-7 lead.

In the third quarter, Michigan’s Hayden Epstein kicked a 42-yard field goal with 11:22 remaining in the quarter to cut the OSU lead to 14-10.

The Buckeyes again found a quick answer on their next possession. With 8:13 remaining in the quarter, Dan Stultz connected on a 27-yard field goal to increase OSU’s lead, 17-10.

The chess match continued later in the quarter. With 44 seconds remaining, Michigan’s Ian Gold intercepted a Bellisari pass at the OSU 25-yard line and returned it to the OSU 17. One play later, UM tied the score when quarterback Tom Brady rolled out of the pocket and found Shawn Thompson for his second touchdown of the game.

With 5:01 remaining, Brady hit Marquise Walker on a 10-yard touchdown reception. UM kept the 24-17 lead for the remainder of the game.

Offensively, the Buckeyes outgained the Wolverines 368 yards to 252. Michael Wiley finished with 22 carries for 92 yards rushing.

Defensively, cornerback Nate Clements led the Buckeyes with nine tackles. Linebacker Jason Ott, safety Mike Doss and linebacker Na’il Diggs chipped in with seven each. Defensive end James Cotton recorded a pair of sacks.
