Recap
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Ninth-ranked Ohio State scored all 10 of its points in the first half, then held on to defeat Illinois, 10-6. The OSU defense rose up to preserve the win after the Illini drove to the Buckeyes’ 20 with 35 seconds remaining in the game.
Scott Mohr, who had twice left the game with a knee injury, directed Illinois to its only score on a 64-yard drive with 6:22 to play. A missed extra point try left the Illini (1-3, 0-1) in need of a touchdown for the win. Mohr got his chance at heroics when the Illinois defense stalled OSU at the Illini 30 with 1:26 left on the clock.
Three completions later the Illini were within 20 yards of the end zone before the Buckeye defense came to life. Three straight incompletions and a 5-yard sack of Mohr by Mike Sullivan gave Ohio State a 3-0-1 start on the season. OSU registered four sacks on the afternoon.
