Recap
Tucson, AZ — In their first ever trip to Tucson, the 16th-ranked Buckeyes recorded a 27-17 win over the host Wildcats.
For the second week in a row, the OSU defense stole the spotlight, recording 16 tackles-for-loss, including eight sacks. The Arizona offense managed just 194 yards in total offense. The Wildcats had just 47 yards rushing. Wildcats quarterback Ortege Jenkins netted four yards on 19 carries and did not complete a pass until midway through the second quarter.
Still, the Buckeyes need a come-from-behind effort to secure the victory. Down 17-10 at the half, Ohio State rallied with 17 unanswered points after intermission.
OSU tied the game at 17-all on a 60-yard pass from Steve Bellisari to Chad Cacchio with 7:53 to play in the third quarter. The Buckeyes took the lead for good on a 1-yard run by Jonathan Wells later in the period. A 20-yard field goal by Dan Stultz in the fourth quarter gave the Buckeyes some breathing room against the Wildcats who never mounted a serious threat in the second half.
Bellisari recorded the fourth 200-yard game of his career, finishing with 240 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Arizona’s vaunted “Desert Swarm” defense.
