Recap
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State won its eighth straight game with a solid 30-9 win over a scrappy, much-improved Northwestern team in Ohio Stadium on a windy, overcast afternoon.
The Buckeyes left no margin of doubt by building up a 17-0 lead. Coach Earle Bruce used 56 players in a game that saw both teams roll up 947 yards of total offense, a surprising 497 for Northwestern and 450 for the Buckeyes.
Vince Workman ran for 123 yards while Jim Karsatos passed for 211.
Northwestern successfully mixed the pass with the run and gained a season high in total offense against Ohio State. Even though the Wildcats gained 497 yards and made 27 first downs, they had to settle for three field goals. Five turnovers, three interceptions and two lost fumbles, kept Northwestern frustrated most of the afternoon.
Cris Carter caught seven passes, including several spectacular, diving catches and scored one touchdown.
