Columbus, OH — Ohio State faced Nebraska in their season opener at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes, ranked No. 5 in the country, demonstrated their dominance with a commanding 52-17 victory over the Cornhuskers. Quarterback Justin Fields led the way for Ohio State, completing 20 of 21 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for another score. The Buckeyes’ offense proved too dynamic for Nebraska’s defense, with wide receivers Garrett Wilson (129 yards) and Chris Olave (104 yards) both going over 100 yards receiving in the game. Master Teague (48 yards) and Trey Sermon (41 yards) strongly contributed in the running game.

Nebraska started strong, scoring a touchdown on their opening drive to take an early lead, and showed flashes of promise with quarterback Adrian Martinez and running back Dedrick Mills making key plays. However, the Cornhuskers struggled to maintain momentum as Ohio State’s defense tightened. The Buckeyes forced multiple turnovers and stifled Nebraska’s offense after the first quarter, limiting their scoring opportunities. The combination of Ohio State’s offensive firepower and defensive adjustments proved too much for Nebraska to overcome.

This game marked the return of Big Ten football after a delayed start to the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite limited attendance due to health protocols, Ohio State showcased why they were considered a top contender for the College Football Playoff.
