COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State defense gave the offense three first half presents in the form of two interceptions and a fumble recovery, and the offense returned the favor with three touchdowns for a 28-14 halftime lead.
Indiana rallied from a 35-14 deficit in the second half and trailed 35-31 with 1:38 to play after an intentional safety by Ohio State. But on the ensuing free kick, Ohio State’s Vinnie Clark recovered the ball at the Indiana 10-yard line.
The Hoosiers had one more chance, taking over at their own 8 with 30 seconds left, but David Brown picked off the Buckeyes’ third interception of the day to preserve the OSU victory.
Defensive tackle Mike Showalter suffered a broken arm in the game and was lost for the season.
